The Heartbreak Bakery

About the Book:

Syd (no pronouns, please) has always dealt with big, hard-to-talk-about things by baking. Being dumped is no different, except now Syd is baking at the Proud Muffin, a queer bakery and community space in Austin. And everyone who eats Syd’s breakup brownies . . . breaks up.

Even Vin and Alec, who own the Proud Muffin. And their breakup might take the bakery down with it. Being dumped is one thing; causing ripples of queer heartbreak through the community is another. But the cute bike delivery person, Harley (he or they, check the pronoun pin, it’s probably on the messenger bag), believes Syd about the magic baking. And Harley believes Syd’s magical baking can fix things, too—one recipe at a time.

Review:

I loved reading this book. It was an easy, fun read that kept you entertained throughout the book. Also, those recipes. I am totally going to try them.

There isn’t much plot development in this book, but I feel this book was more based on the characters than the plot. However, the world-building and story was so beautiful. I didn’t really like the romance between Syd and Harley. It didn’t feel real to me, but then some people may love the insta-love more than me.

Character development was perfect. All the character were amazing and I loved the rep in it. This book has so much diversity. Syd is an amazing character. The development done on Syd was brilliant. Also, Vin and Alec are my new favorite couple. They are so cute together.

Overall, this is a perfect recipe of magic, diversity and queerness. I love the recipes put in throughout the book. This book is a beautiful story of found family and being yourself. Am incredible book that I really loved reading.
