Pretty Deadly (Pretty Deadly, Book 1)

About the book:

Cinna longs to reclaim the life her awful family stole from her. She has spent years plotting revenge on her spoiled cousins for displacing her as heiress and forcing her to work as a servant instead. When a grand ball is announced and an isolated young duchess crosses her path, Cinna sees a chance to climb far higher than even she ever dreamed.

In need of a scapegoat should her plan collapse, she cajoles a small-time thief and conman named Johann into launching his own scheme the same night as hers. They embark on parallel heists against the castle during the ball.

Johann aims for wealth, but plans carefully for maximum chaos with minimal injury. Cinna has no such compunctions: the nobility she scams and slaughters have done nothing to deserve their comfortable lives, so she feels no remorse as she destroys them. She drugs her cousins, captures the duchess, and goes to the ball in her stead, set on stealing a new life for herself — and the prince’s heart.

In the end, she’ll betray anyone who might drag her back down. Even Johann, the only person Cinna considers a friend, will not make it out unscathed.

Review:

This book was brilliant. I loved every minute of reading. This book is a dark fantasy loosely based on the Cinderella story and while it is loosely based, I still loved it.

The author did an amazing job writing this book. As the story went, you never saw the whole story until towards the ending. It was filled with mystery and plot twists (many that I did not see coming). Overall, the plot was really well developed and worked as a thriller.

The characters were so good. I loved the dual perspective between Cinna and her so called best friend, Johann. This was really great, as both were scheming and it made the book that much better.

Overall, I loved reading this book. I would totally recommend to anyone, especially those that love thriller who want to try the fantasy genre.

*Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review*
