Alex, a seventeen-year-old girl, is hiking through the wilderness when an earth-shattering electromagnetic pulse destroys almost everything.
Survivors are now divided into two groups:
- those who have developed a superhuman sense
- those who have acquired a taste for human flesh.
Alex meets Ellie, a lost girl, and To, a young army veteran. Together they will fight and be torn apart. However, the biggest question Alex must face is:
In such a vastly changed world, who can she trust?
Warning: This book is violent and very gory.
Warning: Spoiler Alert
This book started out fast-paced. It had great character development. The plot was really interesting and unique. I really enjoyed reading this book.
I loved how the book began:
– Alex hiking through the wilderness
– She meets Ellie and her grandfather
– Then the EMP happens
The beginning gave a bit of background knowledge to the characters without spoiling the book. It also helped with understanding Ellie and Alex’s choices. When they meet Tom, the plot begins together. They begin their journey towards surviving.
Then towards the end, everything fell apart. There were many plot holes. Character development just stopped. The end was abrupt and made not sense.
It all started when Ellie was kidnapped. I knew that Tom was shot, but what happened after he was shot. Well, Ellie was kidnapped (questioning this) and Alex was trying to keep Tom alive. What was Alex doing when Ellie was being kidnapped.
Then the whole thing with Rule. I know Alex went to get help, but why not try dragging Tom with her first. She goes through this depressing stage after discovering Tom disappeared, and then suddenly leaves Rule.
This book was overall confusing. The beginning was excellent. It had the right amount of plot and character development. Then, the book went down hill. It become confusing and had no development.
