Many people have read and love Rick Riordan’s books. It has become a worldwide sensation. Many have started fandoms ,fan pages and fan art. There has even been movies made from his books. (Not that they were any good).  If you want to start reading Riordan’s books, do you know where to start?

Well, if not, don’t worry. This guide is to help new readers on what order you should read his books. This guide may differ from others, but it is based on personal experience.

 

1: Percy Jackson and the Olympians


This is Rick Riordan’s most famous series. It has been made into films. (They will spoil Percy Jackson for you).  It is also his first series. This series is where it all began.

This series is based on Greek Mythology.

The series starts with the Lightning Thief, It is followed by Sea of Monsters, Titian’s Curse, Battle of the Labyrinth and the Last Olympian.

2: Heroes Of Olympus


This series is based on the aftermath of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series. There are new characters added into this series too.

This series is based on Greek and Roman Mythology.

This series starts with            The Lost Hero. It is followed by Son of Neptune, Mark of Athena, House of Hades and Blood of Olympus.

3: The Kane Chronicles


This series is not part of the Percy Jackson Series. However, there are book that will later join Percy Jackson and the Kane siblings.

This series is based on Egyptian Mythology.

The series starts with The Red Pyramid. It is followed by The Throne of Fire and The Serpent’s Shadow.

4: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard

This series is not part of the Percy Jackson series. However, characters from Percy Jackson do make an appearance.

This series is based on Norse Mythology. *Cough* It is also about the Chase family.  *Cough*

This series begins with The Sword of Summer. It is followed by Hammer of Thor and The Ship of the Dead.

5: Trials of Apollo


This series is for the aftermath of Heroes of Olympus. It is also based around the same time Magnus Chase.

This series is based on Greek and Roman Mythology.

 

The series starts with The Hidden Oracle. It is followed by The Dark Prophecy, The Burning Maze, The Tyrant’s Tomb and The Tower of Nero.

6: Graphic Novels / Manga

There are some graphic novels / Manga based on the Percy Jackson series. However, some series do not have all the books.

 

7: Other Books

Other books written by Rick Riordan are guides, non-fiction or short stories collections.  The non-fictions are based on the actually mythology retold by different characters. The short stories collection are mainly for fans who want to k now what happens to the characters after the series has concluded. The guides are for fans who want rules and guides to different place/ events in the main series.
